Training practice

Here at Albany we are a medical training practice and you may be offered an appointment with a GP Registrar. These doctors are fully qualified and have had considerable experience in several hospital specialties but work with us to complete their specialist training to become a GP.

We also teach students and sometimes you may be asked to see the doctor or nurse with a student present. You will always be asked beforehand if this is acceptable and you may ask for the student to withdraw if you prefer to have your consultation in private.

Our involvement with medical education is important and we are very enthusiastic about it because it helps to keep the clinical team up to date with the latest evidenced based treatments. Also helps us to attract some of the very best people to work in our community.

We have 3 of our GP partners that take a lead on training, being; Dr Thomas, Dr Glenton and Dr Smout.

GP net earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean net earnings (e.g Average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice. This is required in the interests of the greater public accountability recognising GP pay is ultimately funded from tax paid by the public.

The average pay for GPs working in Albany Surgery in the last financial year was £33029 before tax and national insurance. This is for 1 full time GP, 6 part time GPs and 0 locum GP’s (who worked in the practice for more than six months.)
