Child Developmental Reviews

IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING DEVELOPMENTAL REVIEWS FOR CHILDREN BORN JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER 2021, AND FEBRUARY, MARCH 2020

Devon County Council have published the following information regarding delays and temporary changes to the routine developmental reviews offered to children around their first birthday. The changes will affect the reviews of children born in the above months. Please read the following extract:

“As you are aware, we usually offer all children a developmental review just before their 1st birthday and also between 2 years 3 months and 2 years 6 months.

Unfortunately the impact of Covid 19 Pandemic on our service means we have currently not been able to achieve this and therefore children are experiencing a significant delay in seeing us for these reviews.

To resolve this delay as soon as possible, we are having to introduce some temporary changes to service delivery for children born in July, August and September 2021 and
February and March 2020.
• All children classified as vulnerable will receive a face to face developmental review appointment.
• All other parents/carers of children in the above cohorts will be sent a letter which will include links to information about developmental milestones and an online questionnaire for them to complete. Families who raise concerns about their child’s health and/or development will be offered a shorter telephone appointment. Depending on the complexity of the concerns, a face to face follow up appointment may be offered.

Parents and carers can continue to access advice from us regarding their child on the above number (0333 234 1901), email (southernphnhub@devon.gov.uk) or via the Chathealth texting service and there is also useful information about the health of young children on our website: https://healthforunder5s.co.uk/devon
