Online Services

Here at Albany Surgery we have multiple facilities where you can be in contact with us without having to call up, please see below for further information.





This is an online service in which all patients are able to sign up for, it allows you to order repeat and acute medication, book appointments, view summary information of your medical record and many more. This is accessible all day, every day.

This service is available as an app for Android devices, IPhones, Ipads and devices running iOS operating system 6.1 or higher. This is found in the app store and is free to install.

Signing up to SystmOnline:

In the current pandemic we are trying to reduce footfall within the surgery, therefore you are able to email us at to request login details for this excellent facility.

However, normally to register you would need to come into the surgery with photographic ID and address verification for us to be able to issue log in details.


Photographic ID: Driving licence, Passport or Bus pass

Address Verification: Utility Bill, Banking/ Building society statements, Tenancy agreement, Medical Letter.

Once you have received your login information you should select the SystmOnline image above and this will take you directly to the sign in screen.

Appointment Information

When phoning the surgery our reception team will ask you to indicate the nature of your problem so that they can direct you to the most appropriate healthcare professional to deal with the situation. The surgery offers a range of health practitioners. See below for details and the amount of time allocated for each type of appointment.


Supporting the Practice Nurses, we have a Phlebotomist who undertakes the following procedures:

  • Blood tests (10 minutes) Except after 2pm on Fridays
  • INR blood tests (10 minutes)
Healthcare Assistant 

Supporting the Practice Nurses, we have 2 Healthcare Assistants who undertake the following procedures:

  • Health Checks (30 minutes)
  • Simple dressings (10 minutes)
  • ECGs (20 minutes)
  • Blood pressure (10 minutes)
  • Removal sutures (10 minutes)
  • Blood tests (10 minutes) Except after 2pm on Fridays
  • INR blood tests (10 minutes)
  • Ear syringing (20 minutes) Ensure you have completed a consent form prior to the appointment.
Practice Nurse 

Our Practice Nurse Team carry out a wide range of treatment room duties including:

  • Adult vaccinations (10 minutes)
  • Child immunisations (20minutes)
  • Ear syringing (20 minutes) Please ensure you have completed a consent form prior to your appointment.
  • Complex dressings (post-operative care) (20 minutes)
  • Cervical screening (20 minutes) By invite letter only
  • Weight/diet advice (20 minutes)
  • COPD (30 minutes) Not to be booked with Rachel Ludlam
  • Asthma (20 minutes) Not to be booked with Rachel Ludlam
  • Diabetes (30 minutes) Not to be booked with Catherine Wilson
  • Contraception (10 minutes)
  • Travel vaccinations  Please ring for appointment
  • Spirometry (lung function test) Please ring for an appointment as this requires specific equipment, which would need to be made available.  

General Practitioners

  • Implants (30 minutes)
  • Routine Appointments (15 minutes)

We, like you, find continuity helpful. However where this is not possible, e.g. when a doctor is away or your need is urgent and your preferred / named GP is unavailable, one of the other doctors will be able to see you. If you wish and are able to wait for the next available appointment for your chosen GP you can pre book. If you feel that a problem can be managed by telephone appointment, then these can also be pre-booked online or by telephoning the surgery option 1 (Appointments). The GP will call you on or around (generally within 1 hour of that time) please ensure you are by your phone/ that your mobile phone is switched on and receiving a signal.

Midwife Team

The midwife team are based at Newton Abbot Hospital.  If you need to speak to a midwife or book an appointment, please telephone 01626 324530 and leave a message, the midwives will ring you back.

Health Visiting Team

The Health Visiting team are based at Newton Abbot Hospital. If you need to contact them please telephone 03332 341901.

Community Nursing Team 

Our patients are served by the Newton Abbot Locality Community Nursing team who work for the Torbay & Southern Devon Healthcare Trust. The team have specialist skills in the delivery of general nursing and healthcare to patients who are housebound. Some of these patients are terminally ill and the team have access to the Palliative Nursing Service who specialise in end of life care. By the very nature of their job the nurses are mobile in the community and if you need to speak or get a message to them please call 01626 358 666 and they will get back to you.

What is eConsult?

This service enables NHS based practices to offer online consultations to their patients. This allows patients to submit their symptoms or requests to their own GP electronically, and offers around the clock NHS self-help information, signposting to services, and a symptom checker.

eConsult is the most widely used digital triage tool in NHS primary care, built by NHS GPs for all NHS patients. Designed to enhance patient access, improve patient efficiencies and signpost patients to the right place at the right time for their care.

How does it work?

It allows patients to consult with their GP online by completing a quick form that is sent and reviewed by the practice. eConsult also will direct patients for self-help if it is necessary.
