The doctor or nurse might encourage you to discuss your health concerns with your parents but, whether or not you decide to do so, your consultation will be treated in confidence in the same way as any other patient.

Mammography

Mammography (breast screening) is offered every three years to all women between the ages of 50 and 70 years. If you are older than this but would like to continue being invited for mammography screening please telephone 01803 656354.

If you have a long term health condition which is taking over your life, this course runs on one afternoon over 5 weeks and can help you. It is entirely free and is run at locations around Torbay and South devon. Contact 0800 988 5550.

Chaperone

Your Doctor may offer the availability of a chaperone in certain circumstances. You can also request a chaperone to be present during your consultation. Please let your Doctor know if you wish to have a chaperone present.

Ideally, please let the Patient Care Co-Ordinator know when booking your appointment, or please let your doctor know, if you wish to have a chaperone present during your appointment.

A chaperone may take an active role such as participation in the examination or procedure or have a passive role such as providing support to the patient during the procedure. An informal chaperone is a person accompanying the patient but without taking an active part in the examination or to witness procedure directly. Formal chaperone implies a clinical health professional, such as a nurse. Family or friends should not be considered to be acting as formal chaperones.
