Your Doctor may offer the availability of a chaperone in certain circumstances. You can also request a chaperone to be present during your consultation. Please let your Doctor know if you wish to have a chaperone present.
A chaperone may take an active role such as participation in the examination or procedure or have a passive role such as providing support to the patient during the procedure. An informal chaperone is a person accompanying the patient but without taking an active part in the examination or to witness procedure directly. Formal chaperone implies a clinical health professional, such as a nurse. Familiy or friends should not be considered to be acting as formal chaperones.
